Ya’ll all underestimating the quality of this bread shop. I am raised in Taipei so I know how to differentiate between high quality bread and ‘regular’ chain shops. The bread provided in this store is high quality. Places like ‘Sunmary’ ‘Ijyesheng’ ‘Semeur’ or just random brands out there are no competition to gakuden. Many traditional bread shops use margarine and low quality flour to make their products and it’s just not what you’ll find at gakuden. Each bread product from Gakuden tastes natural and all of them are not too sweet. I recommend their breakfast sandwich and anpan. Their drinks are also ON POINT. You’ll love their black tea with milk if you’re a tea person.

Gakuden is a great little bakery with numerous locations around town. Always nice to see one on a commute so I can grab a tasty bread.

I've bought from them many times, and I've added plastic bags to my cart before. Today, I added plastic bags again, and this time they gave me the smallest bag available. My bread was already full, making it difficult to carry. The clerk kept asking, "Is this okay? Is this okay? Is this okay?" I replied that the plastic bag was too small. The clerk said I'd have to pay extra. I was completely dumbfounded; other clerks never asked this question before! They always gave me larger bags. Today's experience was extremely bad! Either the counter should display a sign saying that different sizes of plastic bags have different prices. No, every clerk handles things differently. I won't buy from this clerk again!
